Darrel L. Hofer, 68, of Sumner, died Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at his home near Sumner.
Graveside service will be held, 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2016, at Union Mound Cemetery in Sumner with Pastor Stephen Moore officiating.
Darrel Lynn, son of Loyd and Juanita (Teckenburg) Hofer, was born October 15, 1947, in Marshalltown, Iowa. He and his family moved to the Sumner area in 1955. Darrel received his education in the Sumner Schools graduating from Sumner High School in 1966. Following high school, he enlisted in the Army National Guard. He farmed for many years in the Sumner area where he raised pigs, chickens, and sheep, but his passion was for horses. Darrel was also an avid baseball fan.
Darrel is survived by his two children, Daniel Hofer of Waterloo and Jenny Conger of New York; six grandchildren, Deakon, Samantha, Anthony, Lucinda, Thomas, and Emma; one great-grandchild; three step-daughters, Tammy, Shelly, and Renee; one brother, Darwin (Eileen) Hofer of Parkersburg; three sisters, Debrah (David) Lalk of Westgate, Deanna (Larry) Luck of New Hartford, and Donita Conaway of Jesup; and one aunt, LaDonna Luiken of Steamboat Rock.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
